I still believe that you are confusing back pressure with exhaust velocity. :It is very well known that backpressure in a naturally aspirated engine WILL improve bottom end torque, regardless of how counter-intuitive it may seem. Then why did my 440 Dodge Charger launch so much harder with the headers uncorked? The whole assertion that back pressure improves bottom end torque is a myth. What improves bottom end torque is improved cylinder scavenging brought on by increased exhaust velocity and therefore stronger exhaust pulses, not back pressure. This is the same reason why smaller primaries are better for low end power on domestic V8 headers. Sure, back pressure may be higher, but the exhaust velocity will also be greater, and the pressure pulses therefore stronger. This serves to increase cylinder scavenging, and therefore increase power.
